The Low Anthem - Oh My God, Charlie Darwin

It was a twitter post that originally drew me to the Low Anthem. All that it said was "been listening to the Low Anthem a lot lately". Or something along those lines. I was intrigued but knew nothing about them.

Sometimes that is the best way to go into an album. Sometimes I wish it happened more. No hype. No "sounds like so and so". So I left well enough alone and got my hands on the Oh My God, Charlie Darwin.

It opens with one of the softest, sweetest songs of the year "Charlie Darwin". This track sets a tone that I had no idea was coming. Soft and sentimental, yet somehow torturous. It tears slowly at your soul with soft guitars and genuine vocal emotion.

There are comparisons that can be made, of course. 70's folk rock, My Morning Jacket, Marah, Wilco even? All of them are just a bit off...yet dead on accurate.

I have tried to keep a distance from reading about this band. I wanted to create my own hype. Unfortunately, I am not allowing you to do that. But know that if you get this album, you will leave it happy. In a sad kinda way.

We think this is a "very good" album. Spend some time with it. You won't regret it.

NPR Sneak Peek: My Morning Jacket, Shearwater, Death Cab For Cutie

Musicology NYC is a longtime NPR fan, but we read about this goodie bag over at Stereogum. They (NPR not Stereogum) have a nice preview of upcoming albums including a Death Cab song and a My Morning Jacket (holy moly, quite different) song that you most likely haven't heard. Also Portishead and Shearwater, Wolf Parade and Elbow (very nice record) amongst others. Enjoy.

Official Bonnaroo 2008 Lineup Announced

So Coachella 2008 was a bit of a let down and for a moment so was Bonaroo 2008. Many people saw that Lez Zeppelin was performing and mistook it for another band with a similar sounding name and set list. Anyway once the truth registered people realized - all in all - it looks like a hell of a show. Metallica, Pearl Jam, Mastadon, Sigur Ros, Battles, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss (maybe the Led could show?!), and My Morning Jacket will accompany Lez from June 12-15 in Manchester, TN - among others. See the full lineup here.

Official Coachella 2008 Line Up Announced!

It's official. And rather disappointing. No Led Zeppelin, no My Bloody Valentine but there is Roger Waters and My Morning Jacket. Oh and Jack Johnson? This years lineup looks like it'll be attracting more jam band fans than usual.

New My Morning Jacket Album Due June 10, Playing Radio City

My Morning Jacket have been out of sight since touring for 2005's Z. But looks like we will finally have another record by the middle of this year according to Pitchfork. The currently untitled record will be out on ATO on June 10th. Expect more of the trademark haunting reverb and Jim James's gorgeous vocals.

In addition the band announced that they will be playing Radio City Music Hall on June 20th.
