Girls "Lust For Life" Video

Girls new video for "Lust for Life" is naughty. It's also a great song on a great album called Album. These guys Girls (hahah) are quite clever and good at making up songs and singing them. Enjoy the video below and don't let the little ones watch it unless they are cool with boobs and birds. Via Pitchfork TV.

Major Lazer - "Keep It Going Louder"

Major Lazer shocked the world with the bitter sweet dance melody video of "Pon De Floor". Now they are back with a creepy one with sweet lyrics and dancability "Keep It Going Louder".

New Spoon Song

These dudes keep on just making good songs. I don't even have to listen to this one to know that Spoon will be it in 2010. Hear their new one over at NPR. "Written In Reverse" will lead Transference into the best of list for next year. Wanna bet?

William DeVaughn- "Be Thankful for What You've Got"

Appropriately, I woke up with this song by William DeVaughn in my head yesterday and I assumed I would get this up on my ultra important blog, but I got caught up with my hip fam. We were eating turkey. I was vegetarian though and had a tofurkey. Or nah.

Enjoy this song today even though it's a day late. This is the original. You probably know the Massive Attack version because you are more indie.

Happy Thanksgiving.

- be thankful for what you've got (original)

Phenomenal Handclap Band @ Bowery 12.11, Video for "15 to 20"

I listened to Phenomenal Handclap Band on my Thanksgiving trip to Philly or should I say the Philly burbs. I really think this group is underrated. I wonder how many of my peeps would agree. Anyway, I think I may go to see them play their tunes at the Bowery B on 12/11. It's their last show of the year and if you miss them you may be sad.

Below you can watch their video. You probably won't ever see this on MTV so the only place to watch it is here.

Not much goin on at Spinner other than a few RJD2 reissues. And Motley Crue. And Norah Jones!

Class Actress, Acrylics, Violens on Wednesday, December 9th at the Mercury Lounge

Some super sweet bands at the the MerLou on a Wednesday in December. Been listening to the Acrylics EP (you can download it for free there too) a lot lately and it's sorta dope. I think you'll like it to if you know what's good. Also Class Actress is the other one that will be playing and Pitchfork is hyping them so they gotta be good, right? Violens EP I listened to a lot some time a go but when I listened to it today I didn't get excited.

Might go to this show.

Here's an Acrylics tune called "All of the Fire"

Here's a Class Actress song called "Careful What You Say"

Where else can you get these things but Musicology NYC?

Bebel Gilberto and Mark Ronson - "The Real Thing" MP3

I've been seeing pictures of Bebel Gilberto all over the city. I guess that makes her not really "indie" but still she can sing good and who doesn't dig good singers especially when they work with... Mark Ronson. Holla. That dude is mad sick at making records like Amy Winehouse's and others probably too.

Let's Wrestle - "In the Court of the Wrestling Let's" Review

"If you want to help/Just kill yourself/But I won't do that" are lyrics from "My Arms Don't Bend That Way, Damn it!". It's the opening track from In the Court of the Wrestling Let's the debut from UK based Let's Wrestle. There are crunching guitars that pull from punk and hard rock. But there are also melodic guitars. There are crashing cymbals and there are soft beats. There are tortured, meaningful and howling vocals that feel sensitive and true. Yes, there is all of that in the first track. And...

The album rarely let's up. Strike that, it never let's up. This trio from London, has a sense of humor, however, you never know if you should laugh. The second track continues the quirky, punk drive and they never look back. You won't either.

We think this album is good. If you're into this sort of melodic punk, it may even reach great status. This band should have a bigger name. You can help with that. Pick up In the Court of the Wrestling Let's here.

The Low Anthem - Oh My God, Charlie Darwin

It was a twitter post that originally drew me to the Low Anthem. All that it said was "been listening to the Low Anthem a lot lately". Or something along those lines. I was intrigued but knew nothing about them.

Sometimes that is the best way to go into an album. Sometimes I wish it happened more. No hype. No "sounds like so and so". So I left well enough alone and got my hands on the Oh My God, Charlie Darwin.

It opens with one of the softest, sweetest songs of the year "Charlie Darwin". This track sets a tone that I had no idea was coming. Soft and sentimental, yet somehow torturous. It tears slowly at your soul with soft guitars and genuine vocal emotion.

There are comparisons that can be made, of course. 70's folk rock, My Morning Jacket, Marah, Wilco even? All of them are just a bit off...yet dead on accurate.

I have tried to keep a distance from reading about this band. I wanted to create my own hype. Unfortunately, I am not allowing you to do that. But know that if you get this album, you will leave it happy. In a sad kinda way.

We think this is a "very good" album. Spend some time with it. You won't regret it.

Mayer Hawthorne - "A Strange Arrangement"

Want to read something funny? Mayer Hawthorne's debut album A Strange Arrangement began as a joke. I suppose that isn't too funny. But it is certainly ironic...Because this album could very well be the best release of 2009.

What started out as sort of a joke for close friends and family, has suddenly and unexpectedly become something very real.

There is no doubt a certain amount of "realness" is poured into this album. You can look no further then the roots from which it stems. Though it is molded from the peak of Motown it mixes easily with modern hip hop. Things might feel retro but it simultaneously feels fresh. And though this vibe is key, just a important is the pain and pleasure that Mayer shares with us from not only his vocals but the instruments.

He plays just about everything on A Strange Arrangement. And the amazement does not stop there. We dare you to keep these songs out of your head. You'll be singing them in the subway. You'll be that dude singing in public. And you'll be OK with it. Just like A Strange Arrangement, the joke is on those that just don't get it.

Back to the point, this album might have started as a joke but it brings some serious shit. Go get it now. Or at least when it comes out on 09-08-09 at
emusic.

We give it an "It's great".
