Radiohead Promises Live Webcast in Santa Barbara, at the Bowl

Radiohead will be doing another webcast tonight. This from Dead Air Space:

Hello! To celebrate the end of a brilliant tour, we're going to webcast the last show here in America. We'll be playing live in Santa Barbara, at the Bowl. It's one of our favourite places to play; I think we've ended tours there before, once even playing a cover of ' cinnamon girl '. It's not too big, in fact it's very intimate, a small arena with a dirt floor, set in pretty countryside. It should be a special night, for lots of reasons, and we're going to try and share as much of it as we can on the webcast. Nigel, our producer, will be helping out getting it to you, so if it goes wrong....It's live!

Thank you so much to everyone who's come and seen us this year; it has truly been the most special and exciting tour for all of us.

Webcast details to follow...

Aderbat - "We Belong to the Sea" Review

In the grand scheme of things, Doylestown, Pennsylvania, may not seem far from New York City. But as those that have grown up in the area know, it is worlds apart. Like the rest of the world, New York is an enigma and a long awaited dream for bands outside of Philadelphia.

Aderbat, is an indie rock band with moving parts stemming from Brooklyn and Pennsylvania. Its sound is not completely unknown, but strangely and savagely familiar - like a recurring doom ridden dream or an evolved humans return to the sea.

The bands aptly titled second album, We Belong to the Sea, finds beauty and heartache lying in the cracks of everyday life, pries them out and serves them on a platter of gorgeous pop melodies.

Aderbat is Matt Taylor, Chris Covatta, Todd Schied, Brad Kunkle and Craig Hendrix. They are a team of musicians destined to survive the intricacies of a music business that is still spinning from the madness that internet file sharing has caused. The band embraces the free download, as three of the six tunes on the bands myspace page are available for download at no charge. However, surviving in the new music business, requires more than giving music away. It's gotta be good, too. And "good", the band supplies in triumphant excess.

"Eyeballs" streams slowly with self doubt, but does so remorsefully. "I couldn't make this up", Taylor sings with seemingly fortunate uncertainty. "Mastodon" plays as the albums dimly lit centerpiece, that has the listener sharing pain with the storyteller. "Recycled Language" is a standout that is simply too good not to mention. "No One Will Notice" is the albums peak, as close to a sing along song as the band can and a perfect tune for the end of summer.

They may be an unsigned act, but that is only because justice seems to be out to lunch in the 2008 music world, with bands like Three Doors Down still infecting the charts.

Aderbat is a band packed with enough talent that will not allow them to remain an unsigned act for long. We Belong to the Sea is the beginning of a transition. "With one eye closed, we go walking", Taylor sings on "Busted Cars" one of the albums oddest and coolest highlights. But keep both eyes on Aderbat. Doylestown, PA is about to conquer the Big Apple.

Metalica - "The Day That Never Comes" New Song

More metal memories. Metallica's new song from Death Magnet can be heard at the band's myspace. Very old Metallica-y. Sounds like the band covering themselves. But much better than that crap we heard yesterday.

Bloc Party - "Intimacy" Available Digitally August 21

This one sneaked up on us. Although Weekend in the City was not a fave of ours. We still love Silent Alarm, and from what we hear this one might be back on track.

The album produced by Paul Epworth (Silent Alarm) and Jacknife Lee (A
Weekend in the City) was recorded in Kent and London. Some songs are Bloc Party
at their most wildly experimental, while other tracks are simply classic Bloc
Party, fitting in seamlessly amongst fan-favourites 'Helicopter', 'Banquet' and
'So Here We Are'.

The discovery of Simplify over the weekend, sweetened the iPhone and made my week. The application gives you the ability to access your entire iTunes catalog and 30 of your friends and stream on your iPhone or PC. Sharing tunes is back!

Radiohead - Not Scoring "Choke", but "Reckoner" Will Be On the Soundtrack

OK, so while most were at work today, some big Radiohead news came about and then was flattened. This from an interview with Choke author Chuck Palahniuk:

“So Clark got Radiohead to contribute a song; to write a song for the very end of the movie, the final credits. Apparently Radiohead liked the movie so much, they’ve written the score, most of the ambient music throughout it. So it’s ‘Choke – with the music of Radiohead’“

But it was later revealed to be incorrect info. Unfortunately.

Watch the trailer for "Choke" below. It's a film we want to be excited about, but the trailer just makes it look boring.

Radiodead Outshines and All Points West (Day Two)

The crowd was twice as thick and the sun was twice as strong at the second day of All Points West. I stole a friends bracelet so I actually scored more beer and that was nice, but the lines were out of hand and I heard more complaints about the five beer limit than I did about the bands.

Regardless, some notes.

Nicole Atkins: Although I only caught the last few songs her Patti Smith cover was rocking.

The Felice Brothers: They became the second act to completely win me over. Originally I had no desire to see them.

Animal Collective: I now officially do not get these guys.

Kings of Leon
: Good enough, but probably will still keep my distance from their recordings.

The Roots: Always solid though I didn't see much of this act.

Radiohead: Stronger set list that included, "Fake Plastic Trees" and "Exit Music" which I haven't heard live in years. It also included "Planet Telex" which I had never heard live before. One exclusion was Paranoid Android but ending on "Idioteque" was a better move than the prior days "Everything in its Right Place".

All in all a good festival, that needs to come to terms that people want and need more than five beers and a better lineup for $90 per day. Without Radiohead that crowd is much smaller.

Set List:
01. Reckoner
02. 15 Step
03. The National Anthem
04. Kid A
05. All I Need
06. Nude
07. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi
08. Where I End And You Begin
09. The Gloaming
10. Faust Arp
11. No Surprises
12. Jigsaw Falling Into Place
13. The Bends
14. Bangers and Mash
15. Everything In Its Right Place
16. Exit Music (For A Film)
17. Bodysnatchers

18. Pyramid Song
19. Videotape
20. Airbag
21. Fake Plastic Trees
22. There There

23. House of Cards
24. Planet Telex
25. Idioteque

Duffy says "Hello New York" Too Much at All Points West (Day One)

After a weekend of monitored drinking (only five beers were allowed) in the sun, Radiohead, and long lines, All Points West is now over (for me at least). There is still a full day off music today featuring, well, Cat Power and some other artists that have forced me to the conclusion that the couch is a better option than that long trek across the Hudson.

Some notes on the day one:

Duffy: Why didn't someone tell her that we were in New Jersey and not New York? She must have said this 17 times. Regardless her set was decent and her vocals near flawless.

Grizzly Bear: Great live show that completely won over this borderline fan.

Andrew Bird: Gorgeous.

Girl Talk: I read in the comments over at BV that it was fun like a frat party and that seems accurate. But come on that was one fun frat party!

Radiohead: Weak set list but amazing light and sound. The band never seems to let down, and if my opinion isn't all that matters, I spoke with someone on the subway that said that Friday's set list was better.

Pictures and day two to follow.

D'Angelo - "Untitled" Video and Spin Article

The article is quite heartbreaking that Spin has up about 90's sensation D'Angelo. But the video is wonderful and timeless. Just don't call him "the naked dude" and maybe we'll get another record.

Peter Sallett - Miss You (Thought You Should Know)

Peter Sallett's name may not seem very familiar to you, but he has been around the film and music industries for longer than you think (over ten years actually). Recently, he co-wrote songs for the hit movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall and his new album In the Ocean of the Stars was just released late last month. His music is quite mellow and his voice is soothing and smooth. As a singer/songwriter he ranks towards the top of what is out there. Perfect music to put on when sitting at your apartment after a date to gain you "sensitive" points.

Below, check out the video for "Miss You (Thought You Should Know)".
